UT Southwestern's Health System Compliance team provides our heathcare employees, faculty, and staff with a foundation for making the right decision, at the right time, every time.
Our Mission
Through a collaborative approach with ambulatory and hospital operations, we provide compliance assistance regarding the identification of risk vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies to prevent, address, and ensure compliance adherence with laws and regulation.

The specific aims of these compliance initiatives are to:

Function as an independent and objective resource to review, evaluate, investigate, and resolve compliance issues.

Promote compliance with the regulations, standards, laws, and policies.

Conduct internal routine and periodic monitoring and auditing of health system billing practices.

Respond to allegations of noncompliance or inquiries by authorized governmental agencies.

Deliver compliance training specific to the needs of the Health System.
Medical Service Billing
All claims for medical service billing made by or on behalf of UT Southwestern shall adhere to applicable federal and state laws and regulations, The University of Texas System Board of Regents’ Rules and Regulations, and UT Southwestern policies. The Medical Center will follow all legal and regulatory guidelines for billing hospital and physician services. UTSW shall collect only those amounts to which the Medical Center is entitled and refund amounts billed and/or collected in error.

Employees and medical staff members will receive disciplinary action for failure to abide by the applicable federal and state laws and regulations, The University of Texas System Board of Regents’ Rules and Regulations, and UT Southwestern policies.

Our Compliance Program has been developed to ensure that payer (Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers, etc.) guidelines defining requirements for billing in an academic medical center are an integral part of the business practice of all faculty, staff, and employees.

If you believe any unacceptable billing practices have occurred or if you have any billing compliance concerns, you should discuss the issue with your supervisor.
